Reinhold Nordsieck Research Collection

Abstract

This collection includes drawings, notes, wood blocks, plans, and other materials relating to Dr. Reinhold Nordsieck's research into the staging of the Passion Play at Bozen in 1514. Also included in the collection: German and American newspapers; a leaf from a Persian manuscript, possibly from the late 16th century; and three folia from a monastic antiphonal, probably created in the 15th century.

This collection houses materials documenting the murder of University of Tennessee graduate Sam Y. Parker by Judge James E. Fulton of Helenwood, Tennessee in 1906. Newspaper clippings and correspondence between the trial lawyers document the entire saga in detail. Other material includes research into the history of the Newman and Parker families, a Civil War diary, photographs, a family Bible, mementos, and personal items.

Lawrence Wodehouse Illustrations for White of McKim, Mead and White

The Illustrations for White of McKim, Mead, and White collection spans the years 1764 to 1976 with the bulk of the material from 1890 to 1906. The collection consists of photographs and illustrations collected by former University of Tennessee Architecture professor Lawrence Wodehouse for his 1988 publication, White of McKim, Mead, and White.

Deeds to the University of Tennessee

This collection contains copies of deeds of university property dating from 1795-1927, with contracts listing who the property was bought from, when, and the conditions of the transaction. Joseph Estabrook Letter

Abstract

Joseph Estabrook wrote this letter to his cousin, Colonel John Wood, on December 25, 1835 from Knoxville, Tennessee. In it, he describes his wife’s continuously declining health and inquires, at length, about many members of his extended family. He also discusses his position as president of East Tennessee College, writing fondly of the college on the hill and comparing it to Amherst and Yale.

Pyrrhus Joseph Neil Letter

Abstract

This collection contains a transcription of a letter written by Pyrrhus Joseph (P.J.) Neil, in 1868, to his father, John Harvey McKinley Neil while P.J. was a student at East Tennessee University. The image at the bottom of the letter is of P.J.'s grandfather, along with two brothers, who came to Knox County from Ireland in the late 1700's.
